Is Rainbodeck protected against moisture?

  • Rainbodeck is designed to be a material for moist outdoor environments; the production of Rainbodeck is a process that wraps the wood flour in plastic, which prevents direct contact between wood to moisture.

Will Rainbodeck fade or change colour over time?

  • All Rainbodeck material is produced with a UV-resistance formula. Rainbodeck will change colour slightly (normally this is visually imperceptible) when it is exposed to sunshine and achieves a fully weathered colour after 12-16 weeks,

  • CoShield offers an additional superior fade and stain resistance protective shield for a even better UV-resistance performance. HPC is backed by a 15-years anti-fading warranty, CoShield with a 25-year anti-fading warranty and extra 25-year stain resistance warranty

Does CRACKING appear like nature wood after installation?

  • Wood material has fibres that, when exposed to extreme temperatures, it loses moisture. When the moisture content in the outer part of the wood is below the saturation point, it starts to shrink, while the inner part is still above the saturation point and without shrinkage. The inner part restricts the outer part from shrinking freely, hence the stress cause cracks in the outer part of the wood.

  • Rainbodeck use wood flour which with a size smaller than 60 mesh. The fibre structure is destroyed and then the wood flour undergoes a heat treatment process that removes most of the moisture, passing finally through a matrix mixing, high pressure and high temperature procedure to completely wrap and protect the wood flour in HDPE plastic. This prevents the wood flour from coming into direct contact with moisture and high temperatures

Will fungus and mould grow?

  • The whole production process uses matrix heat and pressure to remove moisture from wood flour and, at the same time, protect it with HDPE plastic. This is not a material that favours fungal and mould growth; Rainbodeck achieves a GRADE-0 for fungal and mould testing

Do insects eat Rainbodeck?

  • Unlike bamboo or other nature material that has high sugar content, Rainbodeck is made by heat-treated wood flour wrapped with HDPE, which does not appeal to insects and also not favoured by insects.

How heavy is Rainbodeck?

  • Rainbodeck composite about 50-70% heavier compared to actual timber sections, with a specific gravity of about 0.96. It is heavier than most timbers because it is denser. The extreme dense characteristics of Rainbodeck also give it its moisture resistance properties, adding to the quality and durability of the product. Variety in the hollow design of Rainbodeck products is offered to customers who do not need high material strength but a lighter and more economical product

How slippery is it when wet?

  • Rainbodeck holds the industry-leading anti-slip standard for its decking products. comply with both the German DIN 51097 anti-slip ramp test under wet and barefoot conditions (Rainbodeck reached the highest level CLASS C)

  • and the German DIN 51130 anti-slip ramp test, under oily conditions with work shoes and reached CLASS R11, which are far above the market average of R9-R10. Rainbodeck Decking can be applied to almost all residential, commercial or even public projects with sufficient safe protection of customers.

Will it stain?

  • HPC is not stain resistant, even though it offers better performance than natural wood but spills must still be removed quickly or the natural fibre of the wood flour will absorb it. CoShield is developed as a stain resistant product with a 25-years stain resistance warranty. (Learn more about the RBD anti-fading and stain resistance warranty)

Does Rainbodeck expand and contract?

  • the natural properties of plastic and wood, the expansion and contraction of Rainbodeck must be considered when installing.

  • Sufficient expansion gaps must be left at butt joints as well as where the profiles meet fixed objects. Consider temperatures at time of installation for contraction/ expansion purposes. The rate of expansion of the profiles is calculated at 3 mm per running metre on average. (Learn more in the Rainbodeck INSTALLATION MANUAL)

Does Rainbodeck “GET HOT”?

  • Rainbodeck decking does not typically get hotter than pressure-treated wood, although on a hot day with blazing sun, nearly any surface will get uncomfortably hot. Lighter coloured boards tend to be slightly cooler than darker composite boards. In extensive studies, it has been found that the colour of the decking board, regardless of whether it is made of wood plastic composite or wood is the most significant factor in the "heat retention" of the board. In these studies, pressure-treated wood stained the same colour as Rainbodeck was actually hotter than Rainbodeck in the same test conditions.
